The Ark Animal Shelter

The Ark is a no-kill animal shelter located in downeast Maine, operating since 1997 in one of the poorest areas in Maine. We are funded exlusively through donations, and struggle to keep up with the ever-increasing costs of vet bills, medication,food, litter etc. Being a no-kill requires that we keep some animals much longer than most shelters....sometimes for life, which adds greatly to our costs. The bottom line for the Ark is that we exisit in an area of the greatest need for our services, but whose population has the least ability to fund the shelter's work. We search constanly for ways to raise and save money.
