Wildfires are devastating communities across California, causing more than 300,000 people to evacuate their homes and threatening many more. The Camp Fire in Northern California -- one of three blazing across the state -- is the most destructive in state history. We want to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you find access to shelter. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know the most effective ways to contribute.

It is the mission of Madison Elementary School to create a nurturing environment for students, their families, staff, and the community which encourages caring, respect, lifelong learning, and citizenship.
Madison Elementary is a uniquely community centered school. Because of our close proximity to the Salvation Army and other area shelters, we have had historically the highest rates of poverty and mobility for district. We meet this challenge with a variety of different programs meant to give students the help and support they need but often don't get at home. This includes our Welcome Room, which serves homeless students and their families year-round. A new addition to our approach is the oppurtunity for enrichment and homework support through an after school homework help program. Many students live in substandard housing with one or more parents absent the majority of the time. This creates a challenge for educators who want to se them succeed academically. Therefore, the supplementation of after-school help for "at-risk" youth could really make a difference.
