Alzheimer's Association Community Educators are volunteer public speakers who help raise awareness, provide education and expand the reach of Alzheimer's Association programs in the community. Community Educators deliver Alzheimer’s Association developed presentations using prepared training materials on topics related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias as well as information for individuals and families impacted by the disease. KEY ACTIVITIES: Communicate effectively and deliver Alzheimer’s Association developed presentations and information to the community. Adhere to Alzheimer's Association’s established curricula and position statements. Connect members of the community with additional Association services by proactively making referrals to Alzheimer's Association programs and free 24/7 Helpline. Complete necessary paperwork for reporting. QUALIFICATIONS: Passionate about the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association. Experience with dementia as a family caregiver or health care professional. Demonstrated success with public speaking; excellent presentation and education skills. Understanding of adult learning principles. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Comfort with computers, technology, email, and PPT presentations. Ability to network, and collaborate with staff, volunteers and community partners. Must be age 21 to apply. Background checks are required. COMMITMENT EXPECTED: AACE volunteers commit to a minimum of one year, delivering a minimum of one presentation per quarter. Orientation includes: Online program volunteer welcome and orientation (4 hours), educational videos (2 hours), self-study to learn curriculum (time varies), and in-person training with staff partner (1-2 hours). Observe one class listed on the education calendar and present one class while being observed / evaluated by your staff partner prior to teaching in the community. Background checks are required as part of the volunteer selection process. Comply with Alzheimer’s Association volunteer policies and procedures. Participate in initial training and ongoing education about Alzheimer’s, dementia and the Alzheimer's Association. BENEFITS TO THE VOLUNTEER: Perfect your public speaking ability and technique. We are looking for volunteers in Arapahoe county so that when we're able to deliver programs in person again, they will be ready to help in their own community.

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s(tm) is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer care, support and research. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s movement unites the entire community in a display of combined strength and dedication. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s - the nation’s 6th leading cause of death. Last year, the Denver Walk to End Alzheimer’s raised over $1.3 million dollars and out of 600 Walks, was Top Ten in the country. OUR GOAL IS TO BE #1 IN THE COUNTRY! Use your talents and strengths to plan one of the elite Walks in the country! We need people who are passionate about our mission, enjoy recruiting new Walkers, event planning, marketing, fundraising, committee engagement and being cheerleader for team captains.

You’ll facilitate groups that are designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for persons with Alzheimeer's disease, family, friends and/or caregivers. Support groups provide an opportunity for participants to meet and develop a mutual support system that will help maintain the health and well being of its members. The Alzheimer's Association provides training, guidance and materials to the facilitators, seeking to enhance their communication skills, as well as their knowledge of resources, to serve and assist families in need.

"Memories in the Making"is an art program for persons in their early stages of Alzheimer's disease. Weekly sessions encourage expression through water colors (occassionally other mediums). Facilitators coordinate the program for a particular site in their community. The Alzheimer's Association operates this program throughout the state. Program times vary by site, but sessions run from 1.5 to 2 hours per week. Training is provided/required.

Interested in raising awareness? Know someone affected by the disease and want to make a difference in the future of those affected by the Alzheimer's Disease? Become a member of our Speaker's Bureau. Refine your presentation skills; become familiar with several different educational programs related to Alzheimer's Disease and then be available to make presentations to a variety of groups in our community. Represent The Alzheimer's Association at community Health Fairs and other community events. Curriculum, power point slides, handouts provided for all events. Training available in the Denver office (455 Sherman St. Denver 80203). Speaking engagements at locations throughout the state.
