VOLUNTEER WITH THE MCMINNVILLE AREA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Job Title: ReStore Cashier Purpose: Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, community, and hope. ReStore Cashiers contribute to this mission by handling transactions and providing excellent customer service in person and over the phone. Sales made in the ReStore provide funds that help our Habitat families build their homes. Location: Habitat ReStore, 1040 SE 1 st St, McMinnville, OR 97128 Job Summary: Volunteer will work the cash register, handling transactions in cash, credit, and check. Volunteer will also provide exceptional customer service. Skills and Abilities: Positive attitude, ability to count money, great interpersonal skills. Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Time Commitment: Cashier shifts are 3 hours long, 10am-1pm or 1pm-4pm. These shifts are available Tuesday through Saturday every week, except for holidays. The volunteer will be contacted about available on-call shifts by the Volunteer & Program Coordinator and/or the volunteer’s supervisor. Training Offered: Cashiers will be trained to use the cash register. They will also receive training in how to provide a positive customer service experience. Working Conditions: Building has heating and A/C, chairs are available so cashier may sit or stand during shift between transactions. VOLUNTEER WITH THE MCMINNVILLE AREA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Job Title: Construction Volunteer Purpose: Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, community, and hope. Construction volunteers help us accomplish this by working with Habitat families to build their homes. Location: Aspire Community Development, NE Turner Way, McMinnville, OR 97128 Job Summary: Volunteer will assist with all stages of house construction, including raising the framing, insulation, flooring and windows, painting, etc. Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time and the willingness to learn new construction skills. Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Time Commitment: Construction shifts are flexible. Volunteers are on site between 8am-3pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays of every week, except for holidays, or inclement weather (Volunteer Coordinator will email volunteers when this occurs). The volunteer will schedule with the Volunteer & Program Coordinator, Jennifer Lyon. Training Offered: Construction volunteers will be trained to use all appropriate tools, as well as receiving training in a variety of construction skills and safety. Working Conditions: Work is often done outside or inside with no temperature control. Power tools and construction supplies are on site. Ground and floor may be uneven. (ALSO KNOWN AS MACHABITAT) Job Title: ReStore Online Sales Associate Purpose: Our mission is to bring people together to build homes, community, and hope. ReStore Online Sales Associates contribute to this mission by supporting our efforts to build homes for hardworking Oregon families and adopting the powerful environmental ethic: reduce, reuse, recycle. Online sales of donated items provide funds that help our Habitat families build their homes. Location: Habitat ReStore, 1040 SE 1st St, McMinnville, OR 97128 Job Summary: Volunteer will set up an inventory and shipping system to easily mail out items when purchased online. Work will also include packing items for shipment, assisting with customer service, handling returns, reorganizing items once listed, occasionally counting inventory. Possible duties include photographing items to post online and potentially sorting through donations such as clothes, books, purses, etc. Skills and Abilities: Ability to work independently or with a small team, knowledge of basic computer technology, and exceptional organization skills. Especially helpful if the volunteer has experience selling on platforms beyond eBay (i.e., Etsy, Mercari, Bonanza, or any others), but not required. Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Ideal for someone who loves to look for those exceptional "finds" in a box of treasures! Time Commitment: Initially, this volunteer will train with our Online Sales Representative, as well as our ReStore Manager. Once training is complete, this volunteer would ideally work a regular shift on Wednesdays or Saturdays. Timing is flexible. Training Offered: Training will occur as needed. This is a newly created position - the ideal candidate will already have most of the necessary skills! Receiving Associates assist in the receipt, organization, cleaning, pricing, and placement of donations, which has a direct impact on sales made in the ReStore. ReStore sales provide funds to help our Habitat families build their homes. Location: Habitat ReStore, 1040 SE 1 st St, McMinnville, OR 97128 Job Summary: Volunteer will work in our receiving room; greeting donors and helping them unload donations approved by the supervisor, WHICH REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO LIFT HEAVY ITEMS. Volunteer will also clean and price new items, then place them appropriately in the ReStore. Finally, Receiving Associates will help organize the receiving room to make room for new donations. Skills and Abilities: ABILITY TO LIFT HEAVY ITEMS . Able to work outdoors and in a building with no temperature controls, willingness to learn pricing and cleaning methods, must have the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, must have positive attitude, must have excellent organizational skills. Volunteer must be at least 16 years old. Time Commitment: Availability on Wednesdays and/or Saturdays while we accept donations from 10am-4pm. Hours will be agreed upon with the Volunteer & Program Coordinator and the volunteer’s supervisor, but can be flexible. Training Offered: Receiving Associates will be trained in how to clean and price items. They will also learn how to display items in the store. Benefits: Great work experience, supporting ReStore’s mission to raise money to help families build their new homes, references for future employers, meet new friends. Working Conditions: Building does not have temperature control. There are many sharp and heavy objects in the receiving room. Volunteer Supervisors: ReStore Manager, Steve Long. Spanish Translating Assistants contribute to this mission by supporting our efforts to help build homes for hardworking Oregon families who partner with us. Communication between community members, staff and volunteers is drastically increased through this position's assistance and will help our organization connect with a broader audience. Location: MacHabitat Administrative Offices, 1024 SE 1st St, McMinnville, OR 97128 Job Summary: Volunteer(s) will help our staff and committee members communicate with current homeowner partners, homeowner program applicants and other community members via email, phone and/or print. Volunteer(s) will convert written and/or spoken material from English into Spanish, making sure that the translated version conveys the meaning of the original as clearly as possible. Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate fluently in English and Spanish in both conversational and written formats. Appreciation of other cultures. Attention to detail. Experience with housing/real estate a plus, but not necessary. Volunteer must have access to a computer, email, and phone. Time Commitment: This position can be considered on-call as projects vary throughout the year, as will requests for Spanish translating assistance. Our homeowner program has a 30-day open application window once per year in the spring, which requires numerous documents/flyers to be translated, as well as assistance with some in person or phone meetings throughout this timeframe. Training Offered: Volunteer will become familiar with Habitat for Humanity as an organization, how our affiliate is structured, and with the material used in the Homeowner Selection Process to be able to relay this information in translations. Confidentiality and liability training/waivers will be provided to ensure the privacy of sensitive personal information. Benefits: Great work experience, references for future employers, meet new community members and support MacHabitat's mission. Working Conditions: Most work will be done remotely.
