Description

Northeast Performing Arts Group is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1979 by Ms. Rita Jackson to offer the youth of far northeast Washington, DC an array of positive alternatives to street life. The organization's studio is located at 3431 Benning Road, NE, Washington, DC with some activities and performances held at Ward 7 schools and DC auditoriums. Routine hours of operation are Monday through Friday 3:30 pm to 8:00 pm comprising two segments to accommodate children ages 6 to 12 separately from more mature youth ages 13 to 17. Northeast Performing Arts Group offers performing arts education to youth in the Far Northeast/Southeast quadrants of Washington, DC constituting the Ward 7 community. Youth intervention is provided to youth between the ages of 6 to 17, with outreach to youth in-school and community up to the age of 21. Participation is open to youth of all ethnic and racial groups. However, services target a predominantly African-American population of youth in distressed neighborhoods all of which reside in the District of Columbia. The organization is governed by a seven (7) member board of directors comprised of members of the arts, Ward 7, youth services, and education communities with sensitivity to the unique perspective of youth embraced through the contribution of a Youth Advisory Board. The Board establishes policy for artistic and auxiliary programs, financial, and staff/volunteer direction to frame ideas regarding program elements, special initiatives, target population segments, and special challenges. NEPAG has provided a shield for more than 15,000youths who have participated in its programming. Our programs have been the fundamental safety net that has offered many children and youth positive choices that have enabled them to develop emotionally, educationally, socially, and artistically. This organization has evolved into a professional youth organization.
