Mission Statement

The Washington Heights and Inwood (WHIN) Music Project, a program of Orchestrating Dreams, uses high-quality music instruction (primarily choral and orchestra) as a vehicle for personal development, social inclusion, community building and artistic excellence primarily for underserved communities.

Description

WHIN Music Project was founded and directed by Sistema (Abreu) Fellow David Gracia from the New England Conservatory and inspired by the internationally-renowned El Sistema music program in Venezuela (which over the past 35 years has transformed the lives more than two million young people living in the most distressed social and economic conditions).

Since its inception in August 2012, WHIN Music Project (www.whinmusicproject.org), a program of Orchestrating Dreams, Inc., has served an average of 150 students per week through our different music programs: early childhood, choir and string instruction (after-school), children’s and youth orchestra and camerata, and school residencies.

Now in our third of instruction, we have expanded our programs to reach over 500 students per week thanks to our school residencies in Washington Heights, Bronx, East Harlem and Brooklyn.
