Description

Neighbors Project is a growing movement of a generation of people living in cities with ambition and energy to improve their neighborhoods. The movement was started in fall 2006 by a group of friends who were concerned about both the increasing polarization of our country due to expanding suburban sprawl and the polarization in our city neighborhoods due to increasing gentrification. We looked around at our friends in our 20s and 30s and realized that many of us are actually ready, willing and able to help bridge those divides, but they needed a push. So we formed Neighbors Project to help people do what they already seem to want to do: Enjoy our neighborhoods while simultaneously making them -- and the country -- better for everyone. We are now a new kind of startup social movement. We're an almost all volunteer, legally designated 501(c)3 non-profit, but we have a totally fresh approach to improving our neighborhoods. Neighbors Project is really everyone who takes these ideas and applies them to their neighborhood, but we're also guided by a Chicago Advisory Board and a National Board of Directors. We are currently only working on the ground in Chicago and San Francisco (brand new!) but will soon be expanding our on-your-street assistance to your city. We seek out people who want to take on neighborhood projects, and help them make it happen by providing inspiration, training, connection and support right in their neighborhood. Check out our Neighbors Checklist for simple project ideas.
