The Governor's Mentoring Initiative was created to provide young people in state custody with a positive adult influence in their life. This is a voluntary program for both the mentor and the young person and seeks to provide the best chance at success in life by providing a reliable, positive influence in the life of a young person in foster care and/or state custody. Youth Villages has partnered with the Governor's Office and the state of Tennessee on this project.

I have been mentoring with the program for as long as I have been with the program. I had never mentoring in a program like this before but it has been a lot of fun. Since I have been with the program I have had the pleasure to mentor 2 kids in the foster care system.
