Mission Statement

The mission of the California Academy of Sciences is to regenerate the natural world through science, learning, and collaboration. Our vision: within a generation, the natural world is healthier, more resilient and wilder each year.

We’re an aquarium, planetarium, rainforest, and natural history museum in the heart of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park-and a powerful voice for biodiversity research and exploration, environmental education, and sustainability across the globe. Volunteers are essential to our work, and can be found across all aspects of the Academy, from engaging with guests on the museum floor, to cleaning habitats in the aquarium, to processing and preserving scientific specimens.
