Description
Progressive Volunteers (PV) is a community-based organization founded in May 2007 to cultivate the spirit volunteerism amongst young people and also meet the critical needs of less privileged in the community through community projects. Most of its work is focused in the Ruaraka area -a deprived constituency in north east of Nairobi, Kenya.
During the time of its inception, Progressive Volunteers was one of the first community-run and youth-led volunteer organization to offer volunteer services to youth so that they could become responsible members of the community.
The organization has since grown from six members to over 200 local and national volunteers, 23 international volunteers and over 250 online volunteers, promoting the mission and agenda of the organization.
Since 2007, Progressive Volunteers has also been working with Volunteer Involving Organizations Network (VIO-Kenya) to champion volunteerism nationally in Kenya. Currently the organization is the chair of the VIO-Network in Kenya for the period 2014/2015.
