Mission Statement
Our mission at Seafarer's Friend is to extend the ministry of the churches to meet the unmet spiritual, social and practical needs of seafarers in the New England Maritime Community. Founded and incorporated in 1827 in Boston as The Boston Seaman’s Friend Society, Seafarers' Friend offers direct services and support to international seafarers, including ship visits, transportation, hospitality, advocacy, and a Welcome Center in downtown Portland.

Seafarers’ Friend is a regional non-profit organization providing physical, social, emotional, and spiritual support to seafarers arriving in New England ports. Our mission is to provide compassionate support, practical assistance, and essential services to international seafarers, ensuring their well-being, dignity, and safety while they are away from home.

Seafarer's Friend sends Chaplains and volunteers to visit the seafarers who dock in Boston, Portsmouth and Portland. Additionally, we provide a Welcome Center, transportation, clothing, telephone cards, internet access and basic necessities for those whose journey pulls them far from home. Seafarer's Friend has a long standing and rich tradition of ministering to the maritime communities in New England's major ports.
