Mission Statement

To enrich, connect, and entertain through the art and experience of storytelling. Storytelling Arts of Indiana accomplishes these goals and instills the value of storytelling in everyday life by offering: 1. Professional storytelling performances, 2. Youth and senior outreach, 3. Historical storytelling programs to ensure that stories of our past remain alive, and 4. events where community members participate by sharing their own personal stories.

Since 1988, Storytelling Arts runs programming year round, including public performances, the As I Recall Storytelling guilds, weekly storytelling at the bedside of patients at a local children's hospital, summer performances in various day camps throughout Marion County, Indy Story Slam in collaboration with Freetown Village and Hear Our Stories: The Life and Afterlife of Incarceration. The Life Stories Project, an oral history program records the stories of everyday people in collaboration with Freetown Village and the Indiana Historical Society. The Annual Liar's Contest takes place during the Indiana State Fair in Pioneer Village where youth and adults tell their biggest lie for cash prizes and ribbons.
