Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Our mission at Armin Jahr Elementary is to provide guidance so students can: meet their educational needs in a safe and caring environment, acquire and apply identified essential learning skills, learn and practice social skills, contribute as responsible citizens of our school and community, and discover and reach their full potential.
In order to accomplish this mission, our staff is committed to nurturing each child as a unique individual, working cooperatively with parents, modeling life-long learning, planning and implementing procedures to ensure student safety, and offering learning options for academic growth with an emphasis on the essential learning requirements.
Washington Reading Corps members and volunteer tutors at Armin Jahr Elementary are recruited and trained in order to tutor students in grades K-5 identified as needing reading assistance in reading and/or reading readiness skills in one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions. Through the course of the tutoring process, students are expected to raise their reading skills by at least one grade level and show improvement in attitudes and behaviors toward reading. Washington Reading Corps assistance comes to schools through competitive grants. Granted members help plan and create sustainability for a current tutoring program or develop a reading-centered tutoring program for the school. The tutoring program at Armin Jahr was developed in conjunction with Washington Reading Corps members serving in AMERICORPS in partnership with faculty members and experienced reading specialists.
