Our mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one to one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
We provide screened and trained volunteers to mentor our most vulnerable youth, providing academic and social support. Volunteers spend at least one hour per week with the children on a one on one basis, serving as guide, tutor, and role model. WE partner with parents/guardians, volunteers and others in the community and hold ourselves accountable for each child in our program achieving:
Higher aspirations, greater confidence, and better relationships
Avoidance of risky behaviors
Educational Success - especially reading on grade level by third grade.

I volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Heart of GA for nearly a year, and it was the best possible experience. I was matched with a local elementary school student who was struggling with reading and comprehension skills. For an hour each week, we met to read together, practice her skill sets, and work together on schoolwork. Volunteers are so important, not because they are any better at teaching than the teachers who work with these kids every day, but because the kids become so excited about learning when they have "their own person" come in just for them. You can make a huge impact on a child's life just by giving them one-on-one learning time. This organization is fantastic, and I recommend it to anyone who has limited time to volunteer but who is looking to make a real difference.
