To increase the live save rate to over 90% for all animals entering the Clermont County, Ohio Animal Shelter.
Every year thousands of healthy and treatable animals are needlessly euthanised at the Clermont County Ohio Animal Shelter. Pets who's only "defect" is they were lost or homeless and ended up in the County Shelter. Fortunately there is now hope, provided the community takes an active role in supporting the programs required to save these animals.
In October 2013, Clermont Pets Alive! (CPA) was awarded a contract by the Clermont County Board of Commissioners as their exclusive K-9 Designee to rescue dogs from the euthanasia list at the County Animal Shelter operated by the Clermont County Humane Society. The Humane Society has since expanded the partnership with CPA to make cats available for rescue from the euthanasia list.
CPA receives 24 hours notice to rescue animals placed on the euthanasia list. Once a pet is selected for rescue, CPA has an additional 24 hours to transfer it to a veterinary partner before placing it in a foster home for adoption.
CPA increased the 2013 save rate for canines by five (5) percent in the ten weeks of 2013 it operated as the Board of County Commissioners K-9 Designee, rescuing 41 dogs while also facilitating the rescue of another 13 dogs to other rescues. Clermont Pets Alive! has rescued over 700 animals since its inception.
Clermont Pets Alive! is a program of Pet Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2006 to create programs supporting animal advocates and homeless animals. Due to CPA's success in reducing the euthanasia rate at the County Shelter, CPA will be spun off from Pet Alliance as a separate 501(c)(3) organization in 2015.
