Mission Statement

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology leaders."- Dean Kamen, Founder

New York City FIRST is a regional office of FIRST - the international 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created to inspire youth to pursue studies and careers in science and technology and to help students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to compete in the technologically-driven global economy.

FIRST programs all share two basic components:

  • engagement of students in the creative, hands-on, minds-on process of technological innovation
  • bring communities together to celebrate the achievements of kids working in science and technology.
  • FIRST Robotics Competition (grades 9-12, ages 14-18)
  • FIRST Tech Challenge (grades 7-12, ages 12-18)
  • FIRST Lego League (grades Pre-K-8, ages 4-16)
As an NYC FIRST Volunteer, one can:
  • Serve as team coaches and develop a robotics team with exclusive access to national FIRST curriculum and program guides.
  • Provide one-day volunteer support at local NYC FIRST competitions.
  • Donate space to NYC robotics teams.
