Mission Statement

A Caring Hand provides group and individual bereavement support to children, teens and family members in a free standing comprehensive center in Manhattan. The foundation also provides crisis and grief support to schools and organizations in the community.

Description

The goal of A Caring Hand Bereavement Center is to meet a bereaved child, teen, and family wherever they are in their grief and fulfill their needs in a caring, knowledgeable environment. Our bereavement services focus on expression, coping, remembering, and community building - the essential components of grief work. In addition we provide consultation, education, and outreach to parents, professionals and the community around grief related issues. We believe the services are best tailored to the individual's needs. Groups are one way to help bereaved children and caregivers feel less alone and learn ways to cope with the changes in their life. Volunteers are an essential part of the program and are used to co-facilitate groups as well as help with center related short term projects. Training is provided.
