Mission Statement

Our Mission: To record, preserve and share the culture and history of the local African American Community from the time of slavery to the present.

Description

The Chappell Hill Cultural Heritage Group is an all volunteer non-profit tax exempt organization. It was founded in 2009 by former residents whose return trips home inspired us to preserve the fading history of our childhood community.

Our activities; An Annual Black History Exhibit at the local Museum an Annual Memorial Day event. Local students, grades 3-8, participate in our patriotic essay contest.

Before the CHCHG was established, young at-risk students

had little to no interest in history or museums. Thanks to our efforts, this trend is reversed.

In July 2015 we will be our first annual participation in the town's Independence Day Parade with a Cultural Heritage float.

The CHCHG's activities are held in Chappell Hill, Washington County, Texas. Chappell Hill is located approximately half way between Houston and Austin, Texas along State Highway 290.
