Mission Statement

ImprovWorks is a not-for-profit theater arts education organization devoted to igniting the spontaneous creative spirit that exists in all people. Our performances, public classes and customized workshops invite people of most ages and all backgrounds to explore the joy and power of the improvisation process.

Description

ImprovWorks has been serving the Bay Area since 1978, using improvisational theater techniques to train in an incredibly exciting theater form, improvisation, PLUS assist people to become more fully who they are. We work with a broad variety of the population (including kids and seniors) to enhance self-confidence and creativity by developing advanced interpersonal and collaborative skills. Participants learn core skills, called FUNdamentals, which build trust, increase listening and support of others. Through non-competitive exercises and games, students learn how to overcome fears, problem solve, challenge assumptions and build cooperation and community.
In a playful, experiential environment, our workshops encourage spontaneity, curiosity, risk-taking and valuing differences. Growth is exciting and fun; students become more open, flexible and light-hearted -- more confident and effective, both personally and professionally. We offer workshops, play nights and performances for the public as well as customized workshops and play events for corporations and other organizations/groups.
