Mission Statement
Be a part of an innovative education solution! Maya Universe Academy is a social entrepreneurship project whose mission is to improve access to quality education to rural communities. This is a response to the failed public school system and inaccessible or unaffordable quality education provided in private schools.
Description
Starting from a tent in the jungle with 15 students, founders Manjil Rana and Yoon, opened the first school in Tanahun district in 2011. Today it’s the only chain of free private schools where parents can pay in time instead of money by volunteering two days per month at the schools.
The long-term goal is for the schools to become fully self-sustainable through farming business and micro enterprise projects.
Students at Maya Universe Academy follow a unique and diverse curriculum, based on the national curriculum of Nepal and supplemented with various activity-based topics. It emphasizes the importance of community, allows for creativity, independence, and critical thinking.
In response to the mega 2015 earthquakes, Maya Universe opened its hostel to board 25 children from earthquake-affected families and are given full scholarship.

Maya has changed my life.
I volunteered at Maya for one year Feb 2016-2017 and returned in April this year; 2019. The absence of our children asking me philosophical questions about family, love, life for almost 2 years was difficult to handle since it was the learning how of to be in the presence and joy of living. That's why I couldn't bear without a revisit!
The village experience was one of the most appreciated and cherished. It is one deep and authentic lifetime experience you'll have. It has changed my perspectives and understanding of this world. Because it is such an authentic, raw, first-hand village living with a bunch of friendly strangers you had never met, adapting yourself to the culture and conditions may be a bit tough in the beginning but this is the gift factor that makes you grow! So what are you waiting for?

I came for the first time in July 2015 to Maya Universe Academy and fell in love with this project which fights inequalities in rural Nepal, with the people and their very inspiring devotion, with the talented, eager to learn, smart students and with the atmosphere. At Maya, everyone is free to bring on a new idea, a new project, a new construction as long as it fits the long-term plans of the school! It is an amazing place to grow and take responsabilities. I have come back every year since then, and can't imagine living without this place and its people for too long.
