Mission Statement

Blanca’s House is an organization of volunteers that brings free medical services and healthcare education to communities in Latin America.

Description

Started in 2008 by Suffolk County Nurse Anesthetist Galo Burbano, Blanca’s House works to bring much needed quality medical care to countries and communities throughout Latin America. Working with medical personnel from throughout America and Canada, we are able to provide both preventative and urgent healthcare to patients in outlying communities in South and Central America. Blanca’s House is different from other medical mission organizations. We offer patients a variety of medical procedures and surgeries in areas including gynecology, gastroenterology, plastic-surgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, dental care and surgery , audiological services, and ENT services.

Whether we provide patients with their first dental exam or give them the ability to walk without pain after a total knee replacement; whether we remove cancer from a thyroid or fibroid uterus, or repair a cleft palate, we are providing unparalleled medical and surgical care for people who would otherwise have limited or no access to a doctor. By providing health screenings, on-site surgeries, medical supplies, and educational outreach, Blanca’s House provides twenty-first century medicine to the underprivileged living in outlying communities throughout Latin America. Each year, over 200 medical and non-medical personnel travel to countries throughout Latin America to provide free healthcare services. All our team members are volunteers, paying for their own travel expenses and donating their time and expertise for every mission.

Never did I think that when I said, "I'd love to volunteer!" in December 2008 that Blanca's House would become my passion and a full-time joyous commitment. My first mission was to Ecuador in May 2009. Now, 13 missions and 5 1/2 years later, the time I spend with Blanca's House on missions and behind the scenes has exponentially raised my passion for working with and helping others and had allowed me to fall in love with a country and its people and culture. Each volunteer team has also shown their dedication to the mission of Blanca's House. I have had the pleasure to work alongside both medical and non-medical volunteers who come together as a family with a common goal...helping those less fortunate to have access to quality medical care. The gratitude and blessings we receive from our patients is more than enough to keep me coming back!
