Background and justification: The Emmaus program of cooperation for community outreach has been active for more than 30 years, and after the rebranding in December 2021, Emmaus has developed a new TOR for volunteers and interns. The program embraces three major components: A safe and supportive environment for survivors and victims of sex trafficking; Realizing the rights of men and male-identifying individuals; A trauma-informed and healthy social environment for men and male-identifying victims/survivors of sex trafficking; Raising awareness, communication, and visibility in public mass events for different age groups. Community and volunteer engagement plays an important role in Emmaus’s communication, fundraising, advocacy, and development work. Structured work with interns and volunteers expands outreach and broadens engagement around men who have been sexually exploited and human trafficking. In order to ensure program advocacy efforts are effectively supported through public events and engagement, we are looking for a committed, creative professional who is passionate about connecting with the community. Our goal is to make a lasting difference for men and male-identifying individuals who have been or are currently sexually exploited or victims or survivors of human trafficking. We are looking to bring on a compassionate, reliable, and outgoing individual for the position of Community outreach and engagement volunteer. Purpose and objectives: Under the guidance and supervision of the Outreach Coordinator, the volunteer will assist Emmaus staff in three areas of interest. (1) Community outreach and volunteer engagement, (2) Event management, and (3) Canvassing and partnership development to support Emmaus’ communication strategy in line with the organization’s standards. Tasks and deliverables: Tasks Deliverables Volunteer engagement Collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator to complete tasks at outreach events, such as distributing printed materials and hygiene kits. Effectively engage with individuals in the community to spread awareness of social issues related to trafficking and exploitation. Utilize interpersonal skills to communicate using language that is empathic, respectful, and informative when speaking with members of the public. Develop awareness of factors that lead to social issues such as homelessness, substance use disorders, poverty, etc. Availability, as needed, to accompany the Outreach Coordinator at weekend events such as summer festivals and other outings. Community Outreach Provide the Outreach Coordinator with up-to-date information during events, such as client stories and milestones. Collaborate with Outreach Coordinator to assess needs, and provide real-time support and resources to potential victims and/or members of the general public during outreach events Support the Outreach Coordinator in creating summaries of outreach events. These include data such as how many people were served, trends or patterns in need, and providing support to volunteers during debriefing sessions. Collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator to identify key community events and partnership opportunities. Distribute materials such as flyers, follow-up letters, and agendas to partners and community members. Support Outreach Coordinator to manage event logistics such as creating shifts, distributing outreach materials, and identifying transportation for volunteers at outreach events. Canvassing and partnership development Carry out events as planned, and support the Outreach Coordinator in debriefing after events to assess areas of strength and improvement for the volunteer team. Ensure that informational flyers and printed materials are handled safely to avoid damage, and are returned to the drop-in center after outreach events. Support the Outreach Coordinator by going to community centers and public spaces to distribute materials and share information with social service professionals at various organizations throughout the city. SUPERVISION, WORK RELATIONS & OVERSIGHT The volunteer will report to the Outreach Coordinator for direct supervision. They will work in close cooperation with the Outreach Advocate, as well as the Program Director. TRAVEL Travel will be required. Exact locations and the schedule of activities will be defined by the Outreach Coordinator. Consult with the Outreach Coordinator to ensure safe and timely transportation to and from outreach events. NOTE: There is not health or life insurance, 401(k) or other benefits included in this contract.

We are currently looking for volunteers who have a passion for helping those who are often overlooked, who love Jesus, and who can integrate their faith into trauma-informed care. You should have a positive outlook on life, enjoy problem-solving, be eager to learn, and embrace being on the front lines. If this sounds like you, we invite you to join us. Responsibilities: 1. Welcome clients to our drop-in center. 2. Assist with the client intake process. 3. Provide support to our clients during their time at the drop-in center. 4. Help maintain schedules for shower, laundry, closet, pantry, and lockers. 5. Serve meals to clients during lunch hour (or dinner). 6. Engage with clients through activities such as games, cooking, arts, and crafts at the drop-in center. 7. Be sensitive to the needs of clients from the LGBTQ+ community. 8. Support outreach events, including canvassing known hot spots, distributing kits, and handing out flyers. 9. Maintain confidentiality of all client and organization-sensitive information. 10. Show respect and compassion to clients visiting our drop-in center. 11. Arrive on time for duty and maintain professionalism in interactions with clients and colleagues. Expectations: - Familiarize yourself with the organization and its policies. - Receive orientation and training for your volunteer role. - Request and participate in regular performance reviews or evaluations. - Receive guidance and support for your volunteer role.
