Mission Statement
The 4-H Education Center at Auer Farm is a unique agricultural and learning resource for the Hartford metropolitan area. Located in Bloomfield, Connecticut, just moments from the center of Hartford, the farm's 120 acres host a wealth of opportunities for children and adults, who come to learn about the science and methods of agriculture, to enjoy its open spaces and to participate in fun-filled, family-oriented activities.
Description
In 2006, more than 34,000 children and adults came to attend classes, pick apples and berries, meet the farm animals, observe wildlife and attend "Family Fun Days" focused on seasonal activities. Approximately 18,000 of these visitors took part in the farm's educational programs. Many of them were schoolchildren from local school districts who came to classrooms in the Education Center for farm-based lessons in biology, biotechnology, horticulture and math, including approximately 4,300 from Hartford's schools. In addition, children from Hartford and other neighboring towns attended the farm's summer camp activities, and numerous families participated in organized education programs.
