The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
We seek to provide opportunities for persons to act on their faith by assisting congregations in service ministry to their communities.
MVS is Rooted in the spirit of Jesus, MVS invites people from a variety of backgrounds and ages to walk with people who are disadvantaged and suffering from injustice, participate in issues and activities of a local neighborhood and faith community, live simply in a shared household where relationships can be affirmed and nurtured and serve as an extension of a local congregation. MVS may also occasionally develop assignments in response to an individual's unique gifts, interests and objectives
Mennonite Voluntary Service strongly encourages two-year terms of service, although one-year terms are available. Assignments begin following an orientation (in January, August or September). Participants serving at least 12 months receive:
Room and board
A small monthly personal allowance
Student loan assistance
Participants also can earn up to 12 hours of college credit through several Mennonite colleges.
