Mission Statement

The Mission of the YMCA at Virginia Tech is building community through Learning, Leadership, and Service.

Description

Founded in 1873, the YMCA at Virginia Tech is a "non-traditional" Y. We don't have a pool or gym, we simply focus on community service and leadership development. One of our cornerstone programs provides leadership and volunteer opportunities for Virginia Tech students. From programs as diverse as Project Home Repair (helping the elderly and low-income with minor home repairs) to being a buddy to mentally handicapped high schoolers, the YMCA identifies needs in the community and provides volunteers to fill those needs.

Additionally, the Y also runs an eclectic Thrift Shop, International Programs (ESL, conversation groups, etc.), the Open University (continuing education), and a regional Crafts Fair.
