Become a Bereavement Support Hospice Volunteer with Personal Touch of Virginia. What? Personal Touch is looking for individuals to help our Bereavement Specialist provide support to bereaved loved ones. As a Bereavement Support Hospice Volunteer with Personal Touch you can provide periodic support to newly bereaved people in a variety of different ways. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in attending funerals, providing companionships visits for bereaved family members, and working on scrapbooks. Volunteers provide reassurance through the grief process and let the families know that they are still connected to Personal Touch Hospice. Bereavement Support Hospice Volunteers are a valuable and necessary part of the healthcare team, whose work and feedback can help us fulfill our mission to the families we serve. How? Bereavement Support Hospice Volunteers have to go through an initial Hospice Volunteer Orientation then participate in Bereavement Support Training with the Bereavement Specialist. After training, volunteers will be supplied with the appropriate information and documentation to provide support to bereaved families. Why? Bereavement Support Hospice Volunteers provide tremendous support to the Hospice Team, allowing us to provide the best possible care. Volunteers also develop a unique understanding of the process through which they can help others heal. You don’t have to have a degree in counseling or bereavement to be a part of this wonderful experience. Please get in touch with the Volunteer Coordinator, Melanie Wood, if you have any further questions or would like to go ahead and start the application process, at 757-296-9989. We have offices in Newport News and Chesapeake.

The hospice team at Personal Touch strives to treat the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the individual patients and those who care about them. It's our mission to help each person live their last days with dignity and comfort. Volunteers play an extremely important role in the hospice team.
