Meals on Wheels is a non-profit, volunteer community service which provides home delivered meals for anyone in our area who is unable to prepare or obtain adequate, nutritious meals. Eight teams of two pick up the meals (one hot meal-for noon, one cold supper - for evening ) at our office location. Meals are prepared under strict dietary supervision (salt free, fat free, no meat - whatever the doctor orders, the client has it). Pick up takes place between 10:30 am -10:45 am M-F. Each driver then proceeds along their well-diagramed route to deliver to homes and apartments within the Westwood/Brentwood area . Approximately 100 people benefit each weekday. Last year over 45,000 meals were served . Instant gratification is our reward when the door opens. If these meals were not delivered, our clients would not be able to live at home independently. They cannot manage to shop, prepare food and clean up for themselves. One woman told us by the time she had prepared the meal for herself, she was too tired to eat it. Our clients are charged what they can afford- from nothing to $6.00 a day for the two meals. This fee only partially covers our costs. However, no one is turned away because of lack of ability to pay.
