Description

Description of VLP and FLAP: The Volunteer Lawyers Program is co-sponsored by Community Legal Services and the Maricopa County Bar Association. The Family Lawyers Assistance Project (FLAP) is a program within VLP. FLAP provides brief service and advice to unrepresented litigants in family law matters. FLAP recruits attorney and non-attorney volunteers to help low income and modest means clients gain access to justice through the Family Court system. Within the Volunteer Lawyers Program private and public attorneys donate their time to provide brief counsel or representation to low-income people with civil law problems in areas such as consumer's rights, family law, and housing. Non-attorney volunteers provide many types of office operations and organizational support functions, as well as professional services related to litigation. Clients who qualify for free legal services have limited income within poverty guidelines established by the federal government. They are citizens or lawful permanent residents, refugees or seasonal agricultural workers.

Ms. Jackman has many years experience with this organization. She is knowledgeable, friendly, detail-oriented, and listens attentively to clients' situations. My experience doing my internship here with her was very interesting, rewarding, and I learned a lot from her. I have referred many people to come here for legal advise and would recommend it as an excellent opportunity for volunteering or an internship.
