Mission Statement
1978 Maplewood Arts Center ,the visual arts component of
Maplewood 's Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, in
building space donated April 2002 to the township by local sculptor June Cater.1978 is used as an art studio, gallery, classroom facility, music performance space, film forum, meeting place, and more - all to support the growth of arts education and performance in our community. .
1978 Maplewood Arts Center is a nonprofit institution An independent Board of Directors made up of local Residents organizes its classes and events.
Description
LEARN
1978 offers a growing selection of classes for beginner to advanced artists. Aspiring artists ages 5 and up are welcome to participate. Most are 8 weeks long.
Summer week long arts enrichment programs are offered for young people in July thru early August.
Offer also is an artist networking group, the Contemporary Artists Forum, from September to June , featuring a class exhibit in the fall.
EXHIBIT
September thru June: 6 week art exhibitions, curated by the
Exhibition Committee or guest curators.
Slides, photos, or a portfolio of art work for consideration by our board may be sent for review. Contact the center for more information or to offer a proposal for a group exhibition.
TEACH Our teachers are a special mix of Maplewood / South Orange artists,
professionals in their crafts. 1978 class proposals, with a description of class or group plus credentials may be sent to roseflanagan@verizon.net.
