Mission Statement
The Peace School is the short name for the International Association for World Peace, a non-profit, idependent educational organization headquartered in Chicago since 1972. The organziation has no political or religious affliations. The peace schools mission is to help individuals create peace within the bodys mind, and further to create the foundation for peace in our families, schools, communiites,nations and the entire world
Description
Peace Day has been observed annually in Chicago since 1978 when it was first proclaimed by Chicago's Mayor on September 7th. Its purpose is to bring focus and energy to the positive aspects of peace-building within ourselves, our families, our schools, our communities, our nations and the entire world. Every year, Peace Day has included One Minute of Silence for World Peace as well as cultural performances of music and dance, each year featuring lively and joyful presentations from different parts of our diverse world. Peace Day also includes the Call to Peace, sending wishes, thoughts or prayers for peace in every country on earth.For more than a decade, The Peace School has held the Peace Day celebration in cooperation with the City of Chicago Mayor's Office of Special Events. The Peace Day celebration has always been a free event open to the public.
