The purpose of SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes is to create enhanced opportunities for people with and without disabilities to interact and form lasting bonds of friendship through shared sports and recreational activities in their community.
SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes provides sports and recreational opportunities to athletes with developmental disabilities age 5 through adult in San Diego County. The year is divided into sports seasons with both individual and team sports being offered. Team sports offer an average of 12 week seasons of training and competition. Individual sports offer a season of training and skill building at weekly practices. Teams may be composed of athletes with developmental disabilities, family members, friends and others in the community who want to play on inclusive teams. Tournaments are held in both individual and teams sports at the end of the sport season. In addition, social activities are offered throughout the year, such as dinner/dances, theme parties, sports festivals, etc.
We currently serve 1,400 athletes and 200+ sports partners (individuals who want to expand their circle of peers to include individuals with different life challenges). Volunteers are always welcome to come and help and play.
