Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

Description

In St. Joseph, MO we have a strong need to eliminate substandard housing. With the average cost of a three bedroom house at $544 per month, and 38% of the population makes less than $25,000/yr. We help cut the housing costs down to 14% to 30% of income versus 40% to 60% via other means. We are a hand-UP, not a hand out because homeoners are expected to contribute 400 hours of labor alongside volunteers, in what is known as "sweat equity". We also have a downtown ReStore, which sells new and used building matierals, which all proceeds go to the making of a new house. Currently we have helped 33 families in St. Joseph find adequate housing. Come join Habitat for Humanity in St. Joseph, we have volunteer opportunities to fit ALL needs and skills!
