Project MOVE supports and encourages youth with disabilities in the development of their self-confidence, self-determination and goals in order to MOVE toward independence and community involvement.
Project MOVE is a one-to-one mentoring program for youth ages 16-21, who are transitioning from high school and have a disability. The program is in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest and funded through the US Dept. of Education. Through a mentoring relationship with a caring adult, the youth explore their interests, skills and abilities in order to develop future goals. The mentors share their ideas, knowledge and life experiences in an informal setting, giving the youth an opportunity to share and learn in a comfortable and trusting environment. We are asking the mentor to commit to 4 hours a month for at least 10-12 months. This gives enough time for each person to get to know the other in order to develop a successful mentoring relationship for both.
