Mission Statement
The Difference Is Inc. is a 501© 3 not for profit youth organization serving the needs of youths and families at risk since 2007. We have worked with and provided services for Detroit Public Schools, Generation With Promise, Michigan Public Health, Ennis Center For Children, Matrix Human Services, and several nonprofit organizations.
Description
The Difference Is Inc. and Detroit Direct Development has partnered to pilot and exciting and innovative program called Our Space.
Our Space is designed to address the needs of Transitioning Foster Youths, as well as provide permanent housing, and economic development for their future.
Our Space offers education, job training, mentorship, and entrepreneurship to young adults ages 16-21 who have neither a High-School Diploma nor a GED.
Benefits of Our Space...
• Students receives SIL housing, until they
acquire a property of their own
• Students earn bi-weekly stipends to keep
them focused and motivated in the program
• Student receives on the job training
rehabbing the homes they will eventually
qualify to buy
• Students will receive a High-School
Diploma or a Ged and a Construction
Certificate, which they can go to apply to
the state of Michigan to become a Licensed
Contractor
• students receive funds up to $5000
through an (IDA) to purchase a house
• Students participate in financial literacclasses and homeowners workshops
