Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Jackson Elementary Media Center staff strive to create a literate population of critical, independent thinkers and lifelong learners capable of accessing, organizing, and evaluating information in order to solve a problem or to achieve a goal.
The Jackson Media Center offers information literacy and literacy instruction, checkout services, online and digital resource access, and a school-wide book swap program. Jackson Elementary Media Center staff also serve as sponsor to the St. Paul Public Schools learning community and assist with special events. Students participate in storytelling, story-making, and read-aloud activities, as well as checking out books. Students also learn and practice information literacy skills. They learn about the Dewey Decimal system, how to use the card catalog, and how to use Media Center resources and tools. Studies also include the alphabetic principle, book care and operations, technology instruction, and research and study strategies. Lessons may be interdisciplinary.
