Mission Statement

The Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program (SAVI) mission is three-fold: (1) to meet the needs of sexual assault and domestic violence survivors by offering immediate crisis intervention in hospital emergency rooms, (2) to follow up with counseling and information both for survivors and for their significant others and friends, as well as for those who seek help relating to incidents of rape, sexual assault, incest or domestic violence in the past, and (3) to educate the public and professional communities regarding services and issues surrounding rape, sexual assault and domestic violence. All services and outreach activities are provided in both Manhattan and Queens and are confidential and free of charge and available to all without regard to gender, race, economic status or religious or ethnic group.

Description

Mount Sinai Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program We provide free and confidential support services for female and male survivors of Rape, Sexual Assault and Incest, as well as their friends and families. Manhattan Queens 212-423-2140 718-736-1288 Counseling, Referrals and Support Services for Survivors SAVI offers free and confidential counseling to survivors of rape, sexual assault and incest. We also provide services to friends and families of survivors. Counseling is important immediately after the assault. Counseling is also immensely valuably no matter how long after the assault occurred. Counseling sites are located at The Mount Sinai Hospital, Elmhurst Hospital Center and the Queens District Attorney's Office. Legal Advocacy

The SAVI staff provides support and information to survivors as they interact with the police and the criminal justice system.

New York State Crime Victims Board

SAVI assists survivors in filing compensation claims with the NYS Crime Victims Board.

Education and Training SAVI provides workshops or trainings for schools, businesses or community groups. Professional sensitivity trainings for medical, social service and law enforcement personnel are also available. Emergency Room Advocacy Trained Volunteer Advocates are on-call around the clock to provide immediate crisis intervention, emotional support and information to female and male survivors of rape, sexual assault, incest and domestic violence, and their families and friends.
