Volunteer Position Title: Independent Board Member, emphasis Fund Development, HR, or Interest in Vice Chair Role Organization: Safe Place for Pets (safeplacepets.org) Location: Colorado Spring, Colorado 808 Village Center Drive Colorado Springs, CO 90915 Type: Volunteer Position About Us: Safe Place for Pets believes that pets change our lives. We’re on a quest to change theirs. We are a 501C3 nonprofit that helps terminally ill people and their families by finding homes for their pets. We were founded 27 years ago by a group of hospice nurses who saw firsthand the pain of not knowing what will happen to our best four-legged friend when the end of life is approaching. Overview: As an Independent Board Member or as a Board Member with Fund Development, HR, or Interest in a Vice Chair Role, you will play a crucial role in guiding the strategic direction and governance of Safe Place for Pets. You will bring your expertise, experience, and dedication to support the organization in fulfilling its mission effectively and responsibly. We are a passionate board of active members who care deeply about our mission and work. We are looking for and need Colorado Springs-based board members to join us and lend expertise and energy to our efforts. Responsibilities: Strategic Planning: Contribute to developing and refining the organization's strategic goals and objectives. Governance: Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards and uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability. Financial Oversight: Provide oversight of financial matters, including budget approval, financial reporting, and fiscal management. Resource Development: Assist in fundraising efforts, including identifying potential donors, cultivating relationships, and promoting the organization's fundraising initiatives. Advocacy and Networking: Act as an ambassador for the organization, advocating for its mission and fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, partners, and the community. Risk Management: Identify and address potential risks and challenges facing the organization, working collaboratively with fellow board members to mitigate these risks. Evaluation and Impact Assessment: Evaluate the organization's programs and initiatives, ensure alignment with its mission and goals, and promote continuous improvement. Committee Participation: Serve on board committees as needed, contributing your expertise and insights to areas such as finance, governance, fundraising, or programs. Attendance and Engagement: Attend board meetings regularly, actively participate in discussions, and stay informed about relevant issues and developments in the field. Support and Mentorship: Provide support and mentorship to fellow board members, staff, and volunteers, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth. Qualifications: Commitment to the mission and values of Safe Place for Pets. Demonstrated leadership experience in a relevant field, such as non-profit management, business, finance, law, fund development, HR or marketing. Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in the best interest of the organization. Integrity, ethics, and a commitment to transparency and accountability. Previous board or governance experience preferred. Willingness to devote time and effort to fulfill board responsibilities, including attending meetings and participating in committee work. Residency in Colorado Springs. Time Commitment: Board meetings typically occur on the 4 th Sunday of the month, with additional time required for committee meetings, special events, and other board-related activities. The estimated time commitment is approximately 4.5 hours monthly, including preparation and follow-up. Job Description: Feline Coordinator Position Summary: The Feline Coordinator works directly with volunteers and potential clients to complete successful surrenders, intakes and adoptions. This volunteer abides by and actively supports the mission and values of Safe Place for Pets. The Feline Coordinator will be supervised by the Placement Program Director. Position Description: The Feline Coordinator responds to Surrender Applications in Shelterluv with information on the Placement Program. If a potential client meets our mission, the Feline Coordinator completes the intake process. The Feline Coordinator has ongoing communications with clients, fosters and team members. This volunteer must have access to a computer with Google; a printer; email; and a cellphone with camera and internet. Desirable qualifications include strong communication skills, ability to deal with clients in emotionally challenging situations at the end of life, experience handling cats, and experience with non-profit organizations. Tasks include: ● Reviewing Initial Contact information and surrender application. ● Coordinating intake- including photos, vet records, and complete surrender application. ● Arranging transport to the foster, vet or cattery as needed. ● Creating a personalized bio for each pet and uploading it, along with pictures, to Shelterluv. ● Reviewing adoption applications, contact applicants to arrange a time for a meet and greet, as well as a site visit. ● Completing all Surrender forms, Foster forms, Adoption contracts, Site Visit forms. ● Setting up Pre-Adopt, provide instructions and follow up weekly. ● Finalizing adoptions in person. ● Attending monthly Leadership Team meetings. ● Communicating regularly with the Placement Director, Cat Care Coordinator, and Foster Coordinator. ● Completing the Fear Free Shelter certification program within 60 days. ● Be available weekends, and after hours if needed when a client needs assistance. ● Tracking your hours each month and turn them into the Volunteer Coordinator
