Books From Birth of Middle Tennessee

Before Dolly Parton's Imagination Library began in 1996, the average number of books per child in a Tennessee household was two. With the implementation of the Imagination Library's Books From Birth of Middle Tennessee (BFBMT) program in 2005, more than 32,000 children in Davidson, Williamson and Sumner Counties alone will have received a new, free book each month, until age five.

BFBMT mails a new, age-appropriate book each month to enrollees ages 0-5 at no cost to the family, and operates in Davidson, Sumner and Williamson Counties. It began as a result of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library - a statewide program that includes BFBMT - and was founded by Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, the Nashville Public Library, Jo's Reach Out and Read, NashvilleRead, Ingram Industries, NewsChannel 5, Dollywood Foundation and the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation, which covers half the cost of the books.
