Mission Statement

We tackle the low college-going rate in economically disadvantaged California communities. We do this by: (1) engaging volunteers in providing one-on-one, research based college and career readiness mentoring to students, and (2) developing educational organizations' capacity to sustain volunteer programs

Description

The CalPREP Mentoring Program operates in the Inland Empire through partnerships between AmeriCorps,Inland Empire United Way, Arrowhead United Way, and the Fontana Unified School District. It was formed in 2013 to address the low college-going rates in Inland Empire. Through the program, teams of volunteer mentors are placed in communities to provide high-quality mentoring at Partner Schools, harnessing the community's desire to give students a bright future.

The Partner Schools we serve exhibit high socio-economic indicators, poor student achievement, low graduation rates and low level of college-going. CalPREP aims to recruit volunteers to provide high-need students at these schools with one-on-one mentoring for college and career readiness.
