Mission Statement

to promote stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem through education and research

Description

Founded in 1979, The Whale Museum became the first museum in the USA dedicated to the interpretation of whales living in the wild. The exhibit hall features life-sized whale skeletons, films, research, conservation, and interactive displays on topics such as acoustics. It's more than just a museum, though; we also play an innovative role in education and research through active programs like our Soundwatch Boater Education Program and the Marine Mammal Stranding Network. Whether a virtual or hands-on visit, we strive to be the first stop for those interested in discovering the whales' world.
