The Mission of Beautiful Angels is to impact the lives of at risk populations - boys and girls - who are in need of quality assistance and help due to their living in physically and economically impoverished, violent, and drug infested environments. We endeavor to help these tender aged boys and girls who are susceptible to the ills of rage, crime, drugs, and who are in need of a bridge from this devastation to a path of success, acquiring the skills needed to aspire to and accomplish quality lives in the future. Beautiful Angels will be a long term asset to local community residents.
Beautiful Angels will provide a comprehensive core of program services that will address the needs to change attitudes and improve self-esteem and confidence, and academic proficiencies.
Our project will provide an effective compliment of services from two local school site locations for after school activities during the week and a central administrative office for assembling, departure and return from field trips.
The program sites are located in one of the most economically depressed and violent communities in our city. The high risk community of participants we will serve come from within the identified district. They all share in common the problems, challenges, and consequences associated with poverty, unstable home life, academic failure, drugs, violence and hopelessness.
Beautiful Angels is concerned about and committed to addressing some of the needs of children and youth in our local community. First and foremost, the commitment is to increase the potential youth to acquire skills that will improve their academic proficiency and performance, that will put them on a path, eventually leading to productive and safer lives. Further, it is to help prevent involvement of those at risk and reduce the involvement of those newly embracing gangs, to circumvent and dispel the cycle of self-destructive activities and lifestyles, including drug and gang related violence and deter premature sexual involvement and reduce childbirth among teenagers. Second, to target and assist those who are at risk of academic, economic and family systems failure by addressing some of the issues and factors of academic and skills deficiencies. In order to accomplish our goals, the entire community complex must be mobilized and nurtured (schools, parents, neighbors, businesses, etc.)
The high risk community, for the purposes of this project, is the group of elementary boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15 years who fall into three categories described in the following sections. They are not yet a danger to society or the community. They find themselves struggling to survive and overcome great adversities and overwhelming odds even at their tender age. When they should be only interested in safe games, ball, jump rope, they have to dodge bullets from passing cars and walk over used hypodermic needles. They have a desire to become more viable, productive and successful in school, getting good grades and achieving good behavior, but the accomplishments looks unattainable. Only if they could get a little help.
