Description
Whitney M. Young Jr. Job Corp is one of 13 Job Corps centers selected to pilot a new nationwide Job Corps initiative called STARS (Speakers, Tutors, Achievement, Retention and Success). The new initiative is designed to increase student retention, achievement and Job Corps completion, and focuses on students' academic achievement and social and personal development with three components: speakers, tutors and mentors.
Volunteer speakers inspire and motivate students by sharing their life stories of struggles and successes as well as other information. Volunteer tutors work with STARS students to help them improve in their academic studies and open their eyes to opportunities.
