Citizen Schools Houston

Description

Citizen Schools is a national non-profit that operates a network of afterschool programs for middle schools. The organization began over 10 years ago in Boston, and today we are in 6 states, with more than 30 program sites. This year we will run programs at six campuses in Texas: two in Austin and four in Houston.

The core of our program is the apprenticeship--a real, hands-on learning opportunity where students are engaged in learning a subject, trade, or skill by actually doing it. Apprenticeships are taught by our volunteers, called Citizen Teachers. The apprenticeship is taught 90 minutes a week, for 11 weeks, during the afterschool time.
