Mission Statement
The Backcountry Snowsports Alliance represents winter backcountry recreationists by advocating the creation, preservation, and management of non-motorized areas on public lands. We work to preserve backcountry areas for quiet human-powered use, promote winter backcountry safety and ethics, and cooperatively resolve conflicts among backcountry users.
Description
The Backcountry Snowsports Alliance fills a multi-faceted role in the Colorado backcountry recreation community. To fulfill the advocacy arm of our mission, our organization works with the US Forest Service, Colorado State Forest Service, BLM, Colorado State Parks, and other recreation, conservation, and citizen groups to preserve quiet recreation opportunities.
In order to educate backcountry visitors on safety and ethics, our organization hosts a series of backcountry skills seminars throughout the fall and winter throughout Colorado.
Finally, our organization pursues outreach opportunities, including film premieres, equipment demos, and other events, to spread our organization's mission to skiers, snowboarders, and snowshoers across Colorado.
