Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
As a consortium of doctoral-granting academic institutions, Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) member universities share the common objective of advancing scientific research and education by creating mutually beneficial collaborative partnerships involving academe, government, and industry. Our emphasis is on developing and promoting partnerships with national laboratories--in particular, our neighbor, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
As a non-profit corporation, ORAU operates as a federal contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by targeting three core areas:
- Worker/public health and independent verification of environmental cleanup
- Weapons of mass destruction national preparedness and emergency response
- Science education, workforce development, and scientific review programs
U.S. students seeking science and engineering degrees is not keeping up with our nation's needs. How can federal research facilities build a pipeline of skills for the future so that world-class research can continue?
Let the science sell itself ... with a little matchmaking from Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU).
For decades, ORAU has recruited students and recent graduates to pursue degrees and conduct research in disciplines of interest to federal agencies with science research missions. We have helped direct the educational paths and research careers of more than 35,000 individuals through:
- graduate fellowships
- undergraduate scholarships
- postgraduate internships
- postdoctoral research appointments
- faculty research programs
- other science education programs
We have mastered the art of matching the applicants' skills and interests with the research needs and goals of federal agencies, particularly with their national laboratories and research centers.
