Mission Statement

The mission of The Wellness Community - Atlanta is to help as many cancer patients as possible recover to the greatest extent possible by providing a free psychological support community where cancer patients and their families can learn to fight for recovery in conjunction with their health care team.

Description

The Wellness Community provides a free, homelike facility available all day with weekly support groups led by licensed psychotherapists for people with cancer and their loved one. Orientation groups are led by cancer survivors (reviving hope and giving the will to live). Weekly relaxation and visualization sessions planned to guide participants through a variety of stress reduction techniques including T'Ai Chi and Yoga. Education sessions led by experts in the fields of cancer research and treatment; nutrition; pain management; journal writing; art and music therapy and humor. Social events are planned to promote vital comraderie and dispel cancer-related isolation by bringing people together to laugh and play.
