Mission Statement

Save a Stray is a local, all volunteer nonprofit that helps homeless dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in Mobile, Alabama. Animals come from from kill shelters and the community. Save a Stray is totally dependent on your tax deductible donations to spay or neuter, test for FIV & Feline Leukemia, deworm, vaccinate for age, provide flea treatment, microchip and treat for parasites. Strays often have additional medical needs, too. Once they have received vet care, they are housed in private homes, homes of volunteers who foster them short term until adopted. Dogs are transported to a partner nonprofit in Dewitt, NY, where they are adopted. Cats are adopted locally.

Description

Save A Stray, a small group of volunteers, rescues cats and dogs, large and small. Some are strays, some are abandoned, some are taken from shelters where they are likely to be euthanized. Some beloved pets come to us when an elderly owner dies or becomes ill. Save A Stray spays or neuters the pets, provides the necessary vaccinations and medical care. Then it's time to find a volunteer to provide a foster home. The next step is to find a home for the pet. Pet Supermarket, Cottage Hill at Hillcrest, graciously houses some of our cats. You may visit, and get to know, these cats anytime the store is open. But, most of our pets are housed in foster homes, people like you and me who are willing to give a fine animal a temporary home while they wait for a forever home.

Save A Stray works with other organizations to transport puppies and dogs to a group near Syracuse, New York, who helps them get adopted. These dogs need loving families to foster them for the two weeks before their journey up north.

Save A Stray is grateful to the volunteers who graciously donate their time and resources to care for our adoptable pets. Please join us in fulfilling our mission.
