Mission Statement
The USS San Francisco Memorial Foundation accomplishes its mission by executing the following activities.
I. The monument at Land's End, San Francisco.
A. Monitors the maintenance of the monument
B. Works with the Park Service to assist in maintenance
C. Develops and executes various improvement projects
D. Coordinates and oversees memorial services at the monument
II. Conservation of historical materials.
A. Actively solicits and digitally archives artifacts, photographs, letters, memoirs
and other documents, oral histories and memorabilia of the crew of CA-38.
B. Catalogs and stores these digital files on a permanent website for access by researchers, crew members and their descendents.
C. Facilitates transfer of the originals of these materials to museums.
Ill. Education
A. Maintains a website with a searchable database of archived digital materials. www.usssanfrancisco.org.
B. Offers printed historical research and study plans to public schools, Kl-12, referencing the archived material on the website.
U. Conducts commemorative presentations for public schools,
Veterans groups, historical associations and other community-based organizations.
D. Offers expert consultation and authentication services for journalistic projects and film and television dramas and documentaries.
E. Provides consultation and guidance to other military unit associations wishing to develop similar programs.
The Foundation shall embrace and include the histories of the submarine "USS San Francisco SSN-71 1" and its crew, and shall embrace and include such histories of any warship named USS San Francisco, past, present or in the future.
