The mission of H.Y.P.E. is to strive to empower, educate, support, and train all youth and young adults (13-30 years old) living with HIV/AIDS to become active leaders, so they will encourage and empower others living with the virus with a positive influence to transform societal stigmas as well increase public awareness of HIV/AIDS especially for children, youth, and young adults. Of importance in H.Y.P.E.’s mission are the actions verbs empower, educate, support and train. These will always be at the heart of the organization. H.Y.P.E. should always ask if something that is being done fits into one or more of these areas. If the actions that are being done do coincide with this, then the organization is moving forward with its focus; however, if this is not the case, the organization will reshape the activity to fit into the specific mission.
Robert LaMar Yarborough is the organization’s founder, and he has taken the move to conquer his HIV/AIDS diagnosis so at the age of twenty-two now twenty-four he started H.Y.P.E. 2 Empower Inc., in the prosperous city of Atlanta. Lamar was inspired with this opportunity from his own time spent volunteering with youth at camps as well as his own experiences being in the target demographic himself.
LaMar is an excellent speaker, organizer, and leader whom has assembled a diverse and inspiring team to oversee that his nonprofit prospers for the communities he will target and reach. H.Y.P.E. is Lamar’s first nonprofit that he has created, but he is well researched on how to effectively manage an organization and efficiently disseminate his message to his targeted audience. He plans to educate HIV positive youth ages five to thirty so that they can become leaders in their respective communities.
