TO assemble a chamber orchestra of world-class musicians drawn from major orchestras and institutions of the U.S. as the centerpiece of a themed summer festival, celebrating the genius of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
TO provide throughout the year personal, intimate concert experiences featuring these musicians as well as internationally acclaimed soloists and ensembles.
TO inspire the minds of youth to higher learning by providing insight into the world of classical music through interaction with the Mainly Mozart community of artists and to introduce them to the concert-going experience.
TO serve as a regional resource by connecting the communities of Southern California, USA and Baja California, Mexico through the common language of music.
Founded in 1988, Mainly Mozart has built a reputation for bringing world class music to the San Diego/Baja California region. Maestro David Atherton assisted by Executive Director Nancy Laturno created Mainly Mozart in 1988 to give the people of Southern California an opportunity to experience the finest classical music performed live by principal orchestral musicians in the summer as well as during the traditional concert season. The first Mainly Mozart Festival in 1989, a series of nine concerts performed on the outdoor stage of the Old Globe Theatre in Balboa Park, received enthusiastic critical and public acclaim. Since then, Mainly Mozart has grown to a fully bi-national organization presenting over sixty concerts each year.
